Lent, a time for Christians around the world to have spiritual spring cleaning: It is where we examine our lives and clean out everything which keeps us from having a relationship with Christ. We begin the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday as ashes mixed with oil are placed on our foreheads to show our repentance.

This season is a new beginning for Christians as we are called to conversion, and to return to God “with all their hearts” (Joel 2:12) Lent is a great gift of the Church to us. Yes, Lent is about prayers, fasting and alms-giving for 40 days as we prepare for Easter.  It is not just about denial and sacrifices, but for us to rediscover the love God has for us and to find our way home to God, and to one another.
Now is the time to say to Jesus: “… in a thousand ways I have shunned your love,

yet here I am once more, to renew my covenant with you.  I need you.  Save me once again, Lord,

take me once more into your redeeming embrace.”   (The Joy of the Gospel)

Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel.

Below are some suggestions to plant a Lenten Garden and prepare for Easter during this 40 days of preparation.
